Union Bank Mourns the Passing of David Maddox

Union Bank’s Chairman of the Board David Maddox unexpectedly passed away Wednesday, August 14. Union Bank President Kevin Williams said that the loss is felt deeply by the bank family. “David is very much an integral part of Union Bank; not only for his counsel and leadership but he was, indeed, a beloved friend to all of us. Our bank family and our customers were always his top priority in his role as Director of our bank.”

Dave MaddoxMaddox had served as a Director of Union Bank since 1981. He became Secretary to the board in 1983 and became Chairman of the Board in 2017. He also served as a Director of Union Bankshares, the holding company for Union Bank, since 1984 and served as Vice Chairman of the Board since 2014.

John Stevenson, Chairman of the Board of Union Bankshares, said, “David has been our guiding light as a Director of Union Bank and Union Bankshares throughout his tenure. He has served as a mentor and counselor to all of us who have had the honor of working with him. His integrity, thoughtfulness and commitment to the communities we serve, both through his work with the bank and through his law practice, serve as an example to all of us and will forever be values that we seek to replicate as we move forward.”

Many within the local community are benefactors of Maddox’s generosity. He was passionate about supporting the arts community and the University of Arkansas Rich Mountain among multiple other civic organizations, including the Lion’s Club.  He was very accomplished as an attorney and served as an Associate Justice to the Arkansas Supreme Court. And while he enjoyed traveling with his wife Sue, he never made it a secret that his love for Lake Ouachita, Polk and Montgomery Counties always called him home.

Williams said the best way the bank can honor Maddox is to maintain his strong work ethic and integrity, all while focusing on our customers. “We will miss so much about him but getting back to work focusing on our customers is exactly what he would have wanted.”
